A few things about ledgestone
What is ledgestone?
Also known as stacked stone, ledgestone is a type of natural stone tile
used for walls, fireplaces or borders. It is made of all kinds of rectangular stripes of natural stone arranged uniformly on a mesh to form a veneer. The most common sizes for ledgestone tiles are 6-by-20-inch and 6-by-24-inch and they are made of four rows of stones glued together.
What are the advantages of ledgestone?
Its first and most important advantage is its appearance. It looks stunning on any wall it decorates and inevitably it becomes the focal point of the room. That is why many people will choose to highlight it with spotlights so that the texture is even more visible. It is mainly found in bathrooms, but have you seen a fireplace tiled around with ledgestone?
Also, for those who want to use sustainable materials, this tile is very eco-friendly since it’s made up of recycled materials.
What are the disadvantages?
As any natural stone, the ledgestone is heavier than porcelain
or ceramic tiles
. This means that its installation should be done with special materials, in order to fix the tiles on the walls. Also, when bathroom fixtures are installed on ledgestone, they can be damaged, so using professionals is advised. And if you’re not into cleaning a lot, this isn’t a good option for your bathroom. It requires frequent cleaning because the different levels and the cracks may be time consuming to maintain clean.
However, if you do want ledgestone in your shower enclosure
, you can opt for sealed and completely grouted tiles so that there is no void left between them. And you can choose a flat design, with the same level for all rectangular stripes. These are easier to clean.
Ledgestone is also a perfect material for outdoor decoration. You can cover your facade with stacked stone, and it will look amazing.
